The Marne River

On our way to Paris we stopped at the Marne River. The 1st Battle of the Marne, 1914,  is of extreme significance as the German's war of movement was stopped, Paris was saved and trench warfare began. The British Expiditionary Force (BEF) had made their way across the channel to help the French, we looked at the British Memorial to the battle.
